About the course

In the 1980s, ‘active viewing’ transformed the way teachers used video in the classroom. Today, while video itself has changed beyond recognition, our approaches generally have not.

On this mini course, we will revisit and reevaluate classic ‘active viewing’ techniques, this time through the lens of multimodality. By focusing on audio, visual and text modes, we will adapt these techniques for today’s online video culture.

You will learn how video works and how to use it to spark curiosity, generate creativity and get students speaking. You will take away ready-to-go lesson plans and teaching ideas.
