Musical adverts
This multimodal lesson plan is built around three carefully selected song excerpts, each chosen to represent a different part of classic story structure: setup, conflict and resolution. Students begin by listening and sharing emotional, personal and cultural associations with the songs. Then, in groups, they work creatively to design story-based adverts using the excerpts as inspiration.
Finally, students encounter a surprising double twist – a real advert featuring a mouse and a mousetrap. But is it what it seems?
The lesson plan develops listening, creative thinking, storytelling, performance and classroom discussion.
